dc.description.abstract | The Republican party that was organized under the name 'Sinn Fein' after the end of the civil war, while initially relatively successful, failed to obtain the majority support essential, not only for the implementation of its policies, but for its survival as a major political force. Suddenly and unexpectedly, within a year of its foundation, the party began to decline. Membership dropped, funds became increasingly scarce and party successes in by-elections and local elections were few. | |
