Public Affairs Ireland was established in 2002 and its education and training division, Public Affairs Ireland Professional Development, was formed soon afterwards. The main business of PAI Professional Development is the development and provision of education and training courses for the public sector in Ireland. The education and training courses run by PAI Professional Development are, in the main, orientated towards continuing staff and professional development.

PAI also provides information services to the public sector. These information services include a monthly journal, a weekly e-zine providing updates on Oireachtas and government department business, and an annual directory of Government departments and personnel.
