The primary goal of Smile agus Sláinte: the National Oral Health Policy is to provide the supports to enable every individual to achieve their personal best oral health. This will include ensuring that an appropriately accessible and adaptable service is available across the life course. The second goal is to reduce oral health inequalities across the population by providing additional support to vulnerable groups to access oral healthcare and improve their oral health. The Policy is evidence-informed from research commissioned by the Department of Health. Views of professionals across several disciplines, as well as the views of members of the public, were also taken into account. It aligns with other Government and/or health policies such as Healthy Ireland (2012), the Programme for a Partnership Government (2016) and the Sláintecare Implementation Strategy (2018). The cross-cutting nature of other policies that were simultaneously in development was also considered.en
