PUBLISHED
The duration of strong earthquakes plays an important role in seismic design. Many studies have dedicated to the strong earthquakes duration, but the existing researches considering the effect of site conditions is not sufficient. This study aims to analyse the variation trend of strong earthquake duration with site conditions. Based on a large number of actual seismic waves recorded on different sites, this paper calculates the duration of strong earthquakes under different site types. It is found that the strong earthquakes duration does not always decrease with the increase of site shear wave velocity. The variation of duration effected by site is different under different magnitude and epicenter distance classifications.
