This article presents a case study of the transition of Unitech Systems from an entrepreneurship to a professionally managed firm. It also describes an approach to the development of a system for "performance optimization" that involves reconceptualizing the role of strategic planning as a tool for overall organizational development and strategic management as well as certain "experiments" with the nature of reward systems used. The article also examines the benefits derived by the company as well as the challenges faced in making this transformation.en
