This study captures an overview of a variety of images of older people in Irish children's books published in the last fifty years. It examines how different models of the older person function in different texts, and how some of Ireland's most highly-regarded authors treat the relationship between youth and age. We are particularly interested in stereotype and individuality, in gender issues, in issues of autonomy and dependency both within and between the generations, and how autonomy of voice is given to the older person in the text.en
