dc.description.abstract | Passive Optical Networks (PONs) are one of the most popular technologies to deploy Fibre To The X - where x can be Home, Building, Curb Cell, etc. - due to their lower cost when compared to point-to-point solutions. However, because of the shared medium, users need to share the PON's capacity. While this capacity could be allocated in a fixed manner to the customers, this would be wasteful, since resonrces would be consumed whether they are needed or not. Because of this. Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) algorithms that allocate capacity only when it is needed are currently being investigated. | |
