Abstract:
The study investigated the intellectual skills implied by the syllabi and required by the examination papers in 23 Leaving Certificate subjects from 2005 to 2010. The study included the consideration as to what intellectual skills should be developed by students in the age group. The literature survey explored theory of learning, the hierarchical nature of intellectual skills, progression within a discipline, the developmental challenges of young adults and issues of assessment
