dc.description.abstractThis study investigated the representation of Global Englishes in three international textbooks and two international proficiency tests of English. The purpose was to investigate the materials' underlying framework of references using content analysis and an analytical framework that distinguishes between traditional English Language Teaching and Global Englishes Language Teaching. Chapter two and three provide an overview over the literature. Chapter two identifies the global role of English and presents its history. The chapter introduces key terms and concepts such as English as a Lingua Franca and World Englishes. The chapter further provides a detailed outline of the current domains of English use worldwide. The implications of the use of English as an international language for English language teaching are discussed in chapter three.
