In February 2023, the National Transport Authority conducted surveys of air passengers at three Regional Airports in Ireland: Donegal (often referred to as Carrickfinn), Ireland West (often referred to as Knock Airport), and Kerry (near Farranfore). The research required information to be captured from two distinct types of passengers; passengers who live in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland ('Resident') and are travelling, and passengers who reside outside of Ireland ('Visitors'), have been in Ireland and are now returning home. -- The objective of the research was to obtain data on the daily and weekly travel patterns and behaviours of passengers travelling to and from each of the three regional airports in line with the NTA’s statutory remit to conduct research and gather statistical data. The aim of this research was to collect essential travel data to form a part of the calibration and update of the National Transport Authority’s Regional Modelling System (RMS), as well as other research on surface accessibility to each of these airports.en
