Abstract:
This report presents the findings of an online Garda survey, which was conducted between September and December 2020. There were 6,000 adult respondents to the survey, and 238 respondents aged 16 and 17 years. Themes examined related to crime and policing in Ireland and perceptions of the Garda organisation. Due to the online nature of the survey, it was representative of the population in terms of age, gender, social class and region. However, weightings could not be applied for location variables hence the sample is skewed to an urban cohort. In addition, the online survey resulted in a much larger victim sample than would be seen in, for example, face-to-face surveys. As a result of the online nature of the survey, the findings must necessarily be standalone findings and are not comparable with previous Garda reports.
