Abstract:
The following thesis addresses the role of Adolf Hitler as a military commander from a subjective point of view. It deals with his strategy in relation to the war against the Soviet Union in 1942 as well as his operational command of Army Group A towards the end of the year. This was the only time during the Second World War when he held such a command, though his influence on the campaign which it waged in the Caucasus has never been analysed in great detail.
