The Commission for Taxi Regulation introduced the National Maximum Taxi Fare structure in September 2006, applying a unified tariff structure for all taxis in Ireland. Since then, a maximum taxi fare review has been carried out approximately every two years to assess any adjustments in changes in the operating costs and market environment facing the taxi industry. Section 24 of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013 empowers NTA to make a “maximum fares order”, fixing the maximum fares that may be charged by the driver of a taxi. Prior to making a maximum fares order, NTA undertakes a review to ensure that proposed maximum fare accurately reflects taxi operating costs. The National Transport Authority (NTA) is responsible for carrying out the National Maximum Taxi Fare Reviews since 2011. This report details the approach and findings of the 2024 National Maximum Taxi Fare Review, which was undertaken in February and March 2024.en
