dc.description | This is an oil sketch made during Barry's later years, showing especially strong parallels with his drawings of those years, and can help shed some light on the original painting of the same subject by Barry which was painted in 1763 but is thought to no longer exist. This painting also reflects Barry's active concern with Ireland's political situation, referring to the diginity of Ireland's past, the plight of oppressed Catholics, and the struggle for liberty.
