| dc.description | This image was originally created by Thomas Mann Baynes and engraved by W. Miller for an issued of 'Illustrated Ireland'in 1831. The following is an excerpt from that issue concerning this image: "The Green Linen Market and Commercial Buildings, Belfast. It is well known that linen is a staple commodity of Ireland. Of this important article, the quantity exported from Belfast is greater than from any other port in the kingdom. The raw material, raised in the country places, having been spun and woven by the peasantry, is carried in this state to the market, where purchasers are always to be found, by whom it is bleached, and prepared for exportation. Of the busy scene thus occasioned, the annexed engraving furnishes a faithful representation. The Commercial Buildings are not unworthy the inhabitant of this enterprising city."
