dc.description | 'This image depicts the plans of both the church of the Augustinian canons at Ballysadare, County Sligo, Ireland and the Romanesque church not far away. Also details of both the doorway (including measurements of height and width) of the Romanesque church and a window, presumably from the same church. The originals, including this image, by Gabriel Beranger apparently do not survive, making these drawings the only visual evidence we have of Beranger's activity at Ballysadare during his tour of Connacht in the summer of 1779. See NLI Ms 4162, page 9, for Beranger's comments on both the abbey and church at Ballysadare. The J.S. Cooper, who signed his name to the drawing, may be Jonathon Sisson Cooper (ca.1777-1850), a nephew of Austin Cooper.' (www.nli.ie) | en |
