dc.description | Limerick born, Norman Garstin trained at the Academie Royale in Antwerp and then in the atelier of Carolus-Duran in Paris in the early 1880s. He travelled throughout Europe but seems to have enjoyed Brittany in particular. The present painting is one of the artist's most famous canvasses and typical of the work of the Newlyn School, of which Garstin was a member. | en |
