Elvery was a student at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin under the tutelage of William Orpen. She was a versatile sculptress, designer and painter associated with An Tur Gloine, the Society of Dublin Painters and the Royal Hibernian Academy. She later married Gordon Campbell, 2nd Baron Glenavy. The mythological figures, monster or dragon-like creature, Viking ship and turreted island keep are reminiscent of the artist's illustrations for Violet Russell's 'Heroes of the Dawn'.
