Description:
Sir Oswald Birley was born in New Zealand to an English family. He became well-known especially as a portrait painter, having painted several members of the English royal family and Winston Churchill among others. In 1921 married the Irish beauty Rhoda Vava Mary Lecky Pike and was knighted in 1949.
