dc.description.abstractEducational endowments mean endowments applied for the purpose of education at school of boys and girls, or for the purpose of exhibitions tenable at a school or university, whether in the shape of payment to the governing body of any school, or to the teachers, scholars in any school, or to their parents, or for the purpose of buildings, or for school apparatus for any school. Such is in brief the definition of educational endowments, as stated in the Endowed Schools Act of 1869. The preamble of that Act affirms, that it is expedient that various changes should be made in the government, management, and studies of such, schools, and inn the application of educational endowments, with the object of promoting their greater efficiency, and of carrying into effect the main designs of the founders thereof, by putting a liberal education within the reach of children of all classes.en
