Abstract:
My desire this evening is to present in panorama a few pictures
that have already passed before the spectator in the Court of Chancery; then to point out some innate vices in the principles on which
the companies so seen were founded; to consider how far the law
pretends, and how far it does not, to deal with those disorders; and
finally, with considerable self-distrust, to suggest certain legislative
remedies, drawn as far as possible from the stores of established
principle, and therefore savouring rather of old custom than of innovation.
