Stylistic animation and rendering approaches intentionally produce output that diverges from physical reality in order to enhance the quality of graphical output. In this paper, we discuss the domain of stylistic animation, with particular emphasis on techniques for stylising dynamics and motion synthesis. We present a survey of previous work and introduce some of the major issues in stylised animation. We conclude with a discussion of open challenges and present some of our own current and ongoing work in the field.en
