The study is the first comprehensive look at the impact of the Single Market from an Irish perspective since its launch in the early 1990s. It examines the history of the development of the Single Market, and Ireland’s trading experience in Europe. It confirms that the Single Market has been important both for the growth and diversification of Irish trade and enterprise and for enhancing the attractiveness of Ireland for foreign direct investment. It concludes that the Single Market has delivered real benefits for consumers, in terms of the range and quality of the goods and services available, while pointing up some of the remaining challenges for both businesses and consumers. Finally, it identifies some practical steps that could be taken to help the Single Market reach its full potential.en
