dc.description | This paper discusses volcanic eruptions and their climate impact in Europe 400-800 CE. Combining historical evidence with that from proxy sources, it expands upon existing knowledge of these events as well as highlighting previously unrecognized or misdated eruptions. The four case studies indicate that the cumulative effect of two or more eruptions within a short space of time may have had the greatest impact on the historical record.
