dc.description.abstract | I need offer no apology for bringing this subject before the Society at the present time. It is three years since, in consequence of an invitation from a great English philanthropist (Sir Charles E. Trevelyan) to Mr. Jonathan Pim, to help in having imbeciles and lunatics
better cared for throughout the United Kingdom, that the Charity Organisation Committee of this society devoted a considerable time to the investigation of the Irish branch of the subject, and made two reports, which were read at meetings of the society. The first report of the committee (printed in the Journal) was so much appreciated
in England, that the society was invited to send delegates to cooperate with the Charity Organisation Society, London, in pressing the necessary reforms upon the President of the English Local Government Board. Accordingly, Lord Waveney, Lord O'Hagan, and Mr. John Gilmore, were deputed to act as delegates for the society. | en |
