This study examines the various representations of place by Irish writers who published English language novels between 1929-1939. The aim of the study was to explore the various affective and subjective dimensions of place experience, as well as the different 'personalities of place,' depicted in novels, and other associated pieces of literature during this period in modem Irish history. The readings of these works have been placed in the context of accepted historical and cultural narratives of Ireland in the 1930s. A hermeneutic analysis was focused through five theoretical lenses, developed specifically for this study.
