Members of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family are essential players in activating the host innate immune response against infectious microorganisms. All TLRs signal through Toll/IL-1 receptor (TIR) domain-containing adapter proteins. MyD88 adapterlike (Mal) is one such adapter, which is specifically involved in TLR-2 and TLR-4 signalling. The aim of this study was to further characterise signalling via Mal. In particular, this study focussed on the mechanisms of Mal phosphorylation.
