This thesis investigates the effect of political institutions on the effectiveness of aid. More specifically, the thesis examines the use of aid under different political institutional frameworks. This thesis aims to fill two gaps in the current literature. First, the role of political institutions has been investigated in a rudimentary manner to date. Instead of utilising measures of institutional quality, this thesis presents measures of actual political structures, and models the behaviour of aid recipient governments under such structures.
