This project is focussed on the design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of novel drug-hybrids which combine anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour activities to target the interface between inflammatory disease and cancer. Chemical aspects of this study successfully demonstrate effective protection and coupling methodologies in the synthesis of the novel hybrid scaffolds from simple substituted indanone and benzophenone monomers. In addition to the targeted hybrids, self-condensation products were generated during the study. Purification methods were successfully developed and novel scaffolds were characterised by X-ray crystallography.
