This thesis presents a discourse analytic study of Irish newspaper talk about those described as refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants. The analysis looks at newspaper talk from two leading Irish newspapers. The Irish Times and The Irish Independent over a five year period (2001-2005). The aim of the analysis is to understand how the print media in Ireland constructs the 'new Irish', those who have come to live in Ireland seeking, asylum, work, study or new life.
