This study explores the impact of living in poverty on the childhood development of early years and pre-school aged children, and the need for early intervention services. This research was undertaken in order to gain vital knowledge and a deeper understanding of the challenges that disadvantaged young children and families experience, as well as the concern this raises for children living in poverty. Furthermore, research on this topic highlights an awareness around these difficulties and the effects on young children and families, as well as the support and assistance that is required to improve adverse circumstances. The data and analyses were gathered using a desk-based approach, scrutinising specific databases in order to identify relevant sources and policies utilised within this study. Observations from the respective studies indicate that poverty has a detrimental effect on the overall development of early years children. Children within their early years were found to benefit substantially from access to early learning centres and regular care, resulting in improved emotional, mental and physical well-being. Additionally, families who received the necessary support and assistance through educational and therapeutic settings, welfare organisations and public policies, were enabled to improve their circumstances and to diminish the long-term implications of poverty.
