Development of a national standard research classification system in Ireland

Abstract

Project Aim: To develop the first national standard research classification in Ireland Purpose: categorisation of all exchequer-funded research in the Republic of Ireland Why: enable the government to create an accurate picture of research performed nationally; allow efficient reporting, and benchmarking processes at a national level; facilitate improved insights into the impact of public investment in research; aid the development of future research funding policy; support the administrative management of research; contribute to improving accountability and transparency in reporting of publicly-funded research in Ireland.
