Abstract:
The main goal of this project is to develop a series of magnetic nanomaterial composites to be used in catalysis, enantiomeric separation or biomedical applications. The design of new magnetic nanostructures is also discussed. The work involves the synthesis and characterization of core-shell magnetic nanoparticles (CoFe204 and Fe304) coated with different materials, such as silica, titania, ceria, CoFe204 nanoparticles stabilized with amino acids and other nanocomposites. Chapter 1 provides a brief literature survey and background information related to magnetic nanoparticles describing their properties as well as their main applications and techniques used to synthesis these materials. The chapter concludes with the aims and motivations in the development of new magnetic nanocomposites.
