dc.description.abstractChapter 1 describes the synthesis and characterisation of a series of mixed-ligand Ru(II) and Os(II) polypyridyl complexes; these consist of a tridentate, a bidentate and a monodentate ligand. The monodentate ligand is chosen to provide an anchoring unit which will enable the complexes to form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on platinum electrode surfaces. The preparation of SAMs of these complexes is described and the monolayers formed are investigated using cyclic voltammetry.
