dc.description.abstract | Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related death in Ireland. While treatment options and long term survival have increased for other cancer types, lung cancer lags behind in both areas, with 5 year survival remaining poor. A number of lines of evidence suggest that chronic inflammation and/or hypoxia are key steps in the development and promotion of a number of cancer types; this project examines the role of inflammation and hypoxia in lung carcinogenesis. The knowledge obtained will assist in the understanding of lung cancer and the development of novel cancer therapeutics to treat this disease. | |
