dc.description.abstract | Among the main characteristic features of AD is upregulation of inflammatory activities, increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation of microglia. Associated with dementia is the damage and loss of neurons in the hippocampus, a brain area involved in learning and memory processes. The evidence suggests that in conditions characterised by an underlying inflammation, such as in aging, the response to an inflammatory stimulus is exacerbated. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of different protocols of Aβ treatment in the rat hippocampus and to assess the possibility that age exacerbates the response to Aβ. | |
