dc.description.abstract | Many neurodegenerative diseases are associated with a shift towards a pro-inflammatory environment within the CNS, and this is believed to contribute to the progressive decline in cognitive function associated with these diseases. Activated glial cells are thought to be the driving force behind the development of a pro-inflammatory environment, and endogenous modulators of glial activity have emerged as targets for the treatment of chronic neuroinflammation. The objective of this thesis was to analyse the ability of one such molecule, SIGIRR, to act as a modulator of glial activation. | |
